Apple gave the SE (3rd generation) an always-on display, something earlier SE models never had. The screen now stays lit at a low brightness when your wrist is down, which is great for checking the time, and less great once there's a crack across it, because the damage is in view all day.

This OLED display screen assembly is sized for the 40mm SE 3. It's offered as OEM Pull only: an Apple-made panel recovered from a donor watch.

Is the 40mm SE 3 screen the faulty part?

The glass is cracked, chipped or shattered after a knock.
2. The watch vibrates and shows up in the Watch app, but the display stays black.
3. Touch ignores swipes or triggers taps nobody made.
4. Lines, flicker or dim patches appeared after a drop.

If the screen is lifting from the case rather than cracked, suspect a swollen battery before anything else.

Getting the right panel

The SE 3 shares its 40mm and 44mm case sizes with the older SE models, so match both the series and the engraved size. During the repair, soften the adhesive with gentle heat, disconnect the battery first, and test touch and the always-on mode before sealing with new adhesive.

With a clean screen back in place, the always-on face is something to look at again rather than a reminder of the drop.
