The Ultra 2 kept the 49mm titanium case of the first Ultra but pushed the display to a much higher peak brightness and added double tap. Owners rely on that screen outdoors in harsh light, so when it cracks or goes black, most of what makes the watch useful goes with it.

This OLED display screen assembly fits the Ultra 2 in its 49mm case. It's OEM Pull: Apple's display taken from a donor watch.

Three checks before ordering an Ultra 2 screen

Model: every Ultra is 49mm, so size alone won't tell them apart. Read the model number on the back or in the Watch app; the first Ultra and the Ultra 3 have their own listings.
2. Fault: cracked crystal, a black screen while the watch still vibrates, missing or ghost touches, or lines after a knock all point to the display.
3. Battery: if the screen has lifted at one side, check for a swollen battery and replace it too.

Fitting order

Warm the edge gently, work a thin blade through the adhesive and lift the display only as far as its cables allow. Disconnect the battery before the screen, test the new display at full brightness, then seal with fresh adhesive and press evenly. Water and depth ratings can't be relied on after opening.

Fitted with care, the Ultra 2 gets its bright face back for runs and long days outside.
