Finding the right part

  • Turn the Mac over: the model number is printed in small type on the bottom case and starts with A, for example A2141.

  • Models in the same range often look alike but use different parts. Open your exact model's page or check the compatibility list on each product.

  • MacBook parts depend on the A-number on the bottom case, not only on the screen size or the year.

  • FPC connectors are soldered to the board. Match the pin count and check if you need the board side or the flex side.

  • Board-level ICs need microsoldering gear: hot air or a preheater, flux and a stencil to reball the chip.
