The Series 4 was the first major redesign of the Apple Watch: new 40mm and 44mm cases, a larger display with rounded corners, fall detection and the ECG app. The screen reaches much closer to the edge than on earlier models, which looks great and leaves the glass more exposed to knocks.

This OLED display screen assembly fits the 40mm Series 4, in OEM Pull or OEM Refurb quality, both based on Apple panels.

Typical 40mm Series 4 screen failures

Cracked glass is the main one, usually from a door frame or the edge of a desk. Others are a display that stays dark while the watch still vibrates, touch that responds only in parts of the screen, and a panel lifted by a swollen battery.

Plan for the gasket

The Series 4 still has Force Touch hardware, so a thin pressure-sensing gasket sits under the display. It nearly always tears when the old screen comes off. Have a replacement gasket and fresh adhesive on hand before you start, and work patiently around the short cables with gentle heat and a thin blade.

Pull or refurb?

OEM Pull is a used Apple display from a donor watch; OEM Refurb puts new glass on an Apple panel. Both fit the same way.

With a new screen and gasket, a 40mm Series 4 is good for several more years of daily wear.
