Buying guide

How to choose solder and flux

  • Solder wire: thin wire (e.g. 0.3 mm) is easier to control on small pads; check the melting point.

  • Solder paste: used for reballing and connectors; low-temperature paste reduces heat stress.

  • Flux: tacky flux for BGA, liquid flux for drag soldering; rosin is a classic option.

  • Desoldering wick: removes excess solder and cleans pads.

  • UV solder mask protects repaired traces after jumper wire repairs.

FAQ

What is solder wick?

Braided copper wire with flux that absorbs molten solder, used to clean pads and remove excess solder.

Why does solder melting point matter?

Lower-melting solder needs less heat, which protects nearby components; higher-melting solder is stronger. Many phone boards are reworked with 138–183°C solders.

What is UV solder mask?

A UV-curing coating that insulates and protects copper traces after board repair.
