Buying guide

How to choose the right IC

  • Search by marking. The safest match is the printed part number (e.g. 610A3B, 338S00105, MAX77705F). Different revisions can look alike but are not always interchangeable.

  • Confirm the U-number and model. Listings name the board designator (such as U2 or U3300) and the models the chip is used in.

  • Reballed or not. Some chips are supplied reballed; if not, you will need a matching reballing stencil and solder paste or balls.

  • Diagnose first. Measure diode values and current draw with a DC power supply before replacing a chip – a shorted capacitor often looks like a failed IC.

FAQ

What is the difference between a PMIC and a charging IC?

The PMIC (power management IC) generates and distributes the supply voltages for the whole board. The charging IC (e.g. Tristar/Tigris on iPhone) manages USB input and battery charging. Charging faults are often traced to the charging IC first.

Are the IC chips new?

Each listing states its condition; GPU chipsets, for example, are marked as original new. Check the product page for the specific chip.

Can I replace an IC without a microscope?

It is not recommended. Modern phone ICs are BGA packages with very fine pitch; a stereo microscope is needed to align, solder and inspect them.
