The original iPad Air, the iPad 5 and the iPad 6 all use a 9.7-inch screen with the touch glass and LCD as separate layers. That keeps repairs affordable, and it means one LCD covers all three. If your iPad still responds to touch but the picture is broken, this is the layer to replace.

This LCD screen comes in two options, Aftermarket and Refurbished. The touch glass isn't included. Model numbers are in the specs.

Signs the LCD has failed

Common signs are black or rainbow ink blotches under intact glass, lines that stay in place, a picture that is visible only under a flashlight because the backlight has failed, and a white or flickering screen after a drop. If only the glass is cracked and the picture is fine, the digitizer is the part you need instead.

Test the new LCD before final assembly, without removing its protective film, and wear an anti-static strap. The touch glass has to come off first, which means heat, picks and new adhesive, and the LCD is fragile, so keep pressure off it.

A new LCD gives one of these older iPads a clear picture again for reading, video and school work.
