Details

At the bench, loudspeaker complaints on the iPhone 12 Pro Max usually come down to one of three things: a grille packed with lint, a speaker worn by years of loud playback, or damage from a drop or liquid. The first is free to fix; the other two need a new part.

This loudspeaker fits the iPhone 12 Pro Max. It carries the listing's Original Quality grade name, but no Apple origin is stated, so it's listed as aftermarket.

12 Pro Max loudspeaker faults

Low or no sound from the bottom speaker, distorted or crackling playback, weak ringtones and notifications, and damage after drops, dust or liquid exposure.

Bench order

Clean the grille and retest.
2. Heat and open the display.
3. Disconnect the battery.
4. Remove the screws and the loudspeaker at the bottom of the phone.
5. Fit the new speaker and test ringtones, media and speakerphone.
6. Reseal with fresh adhesive.

Check the gasket

The speaker presses against a small seal behind the grille. Make sure it's seated and not folded over, or the new speaker will sound thin even though it works.

Handled in that order, the 12 Pro Max gets its full speaker sound back with no wasted part.

Questions

What does "Original Quality" mean?

It's the seller's grade name for a part made to match the factory loudspeaker in the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The listing doesn't state Apple origin, so we list it as aftermarket.

Does it fit the 12 Pro?

No. The 12 and 12 Pro share a different loudspeaker.

What should I test after fitting?

Ringtones, media playback and speakerphone.
