A Mavic 2 that powers up normally but won't start its motors, or starts three and leaves one stalled, sends many owners shopping for motors. On the bench the electronic speed controller board is checked first, because one ESC fault can look like several motor faults at once.

This ESC board module is listed for the DJI Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom. It drives and regulates the brushless motors. No maker is given in the listing, so it's sold as aftermarket.

Before and after the swap

Turn each motor by hand to rule out a gritty bearing, and check the motor wires for breaks where the arms fold. Work with the battery out, photograph every connection and inspect solder pads closely. After fitting, spin the motors without propellers and listen for even sound before a low hover.

With a working ESC board, a grounded Mavic 2 Pro or Zoom can fly smoothly again on its original motors.
