Details

Steel tweezers have a habit of grabbing the one 0201 capacitor you didn't mean to pick up. Months next to screwdriver bits and speaker magnets leave them slightly magnetized, and on a crowded logic board that is enough to drag tiny parts out of place. Titanium doesn't pick up magnetism, which is the main reason board technicians move to a pair like these from 2UUL.

These fine-tip tweezers are made from titanium alloy and sized for phone motherboard work: placing and removing small passives, steadying a shield or flex while you heat it, lifting old underfill and lining up chips before reflow. Titanium is non-magnetic, it doesn't rust, and it's lighter than stainless steel, something you notice by the end of a long day at the microscope.

When a non-magnetic pair makes the difference

  • Placing 0201 and 01005 passives that a magnetized steel tip would drag off their pads.

  • Holding a lifted shield or a damaged flex steady while it is heated.

  • Clearing old underfill around a chip that has to come off without broken pads.

  • Replacing a worn steel pair whose bent or misaligned tips no longer close cleanly.

Straight or curved

The straight version is the everyday pick for lifting components vertically and working along the edges of a chip. The curved tip lets you come in at an angle while your hand stays out of the microscope's line of sight, which a lot of technicians prefer for placing parts and holding things down under hot air.

Look after the points: keep the tweezers in a holder or case, and don't use them as a pry tool on shields or connectors. Slightly misaligned tips can be dressed back on a fine whetstone, but a pair that's never dropped stays sharp much longer.

Treated well, a titanium pair like this becomes the tool you reach for first on every board job, and it stays precise for years.

Questions

Should I choose straight or curved?

Straight tips are easier for lifting parts vertically and working along chip edges. Curved tips let you work at an angle and keep your hand out of the microscope view. Many technicians keep one of each.

Are titanium tweezers anti-static?

Titanium is a conductor, like any metal tweezer, so it doesn't hold a static charge by itself. Static protection still comes from a grounded mat and wrist strap.

Can I use them near hot air?

Yes. Titanium handles soldering temperatures, but the tips get hot when they sit in the airflow, so give them a moment before touching them.
