A quadcopter stays level only when all four motors respond together. When one lags on a Mavic 3, the drone tilts on takeoff, drifts or shows motor errors, and the ESC board that controls them is one of the first things checked on the bench.

Separating ESC faults from motor faults

Turn each motor by hand with the drone off; grinding points to the motor.
Check the arm wiring for breaks where the arms fold.
Look for ESC errors in the app at startup.
If several motors misbehave or a smooth motor still won't run, suspect the ESC.

Fitting notes

Disconnect the battery, photograph each connection, and inspect solder joints and connectors for scorching. After fitting, run the motors without propellers and listen for even sound before a low test hover.
